All important, but peeled beneath the bark is the answer to another question, \u201cIs your life what you want it to be right now?\u201d<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Self-reflection can be scary, but it can also be the most important thing you do. It\u2019s rare that we take the opportunity to think deeply about where we\u2019re at, how we feel, and what we want. When we do this, along with supporting our bodies with wholesome, nutritious food and time outside, we can shape our lives in a happy, healthy way.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This year a lot changed for me. I got my own house, recovered from a long surgery, and checked some things off of my bucket list. These are the things I think of first when looking back at 2021, the \u201cbig\u201d ones. But when you add all the small things together, the day-to-day of everyday life, is when you really get the picture.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d2d4da4 elementor-widget elementor-widget-image\" data-id=\"d2d4da4\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"image.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" src=\"https:\/\/mygardyn.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/Happy-friends-connecting-in-the-outdoors-1024x683.jpg\" class=\"attachment-large size-large wp-image-88685\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6187cfd elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"6187cfd\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In-between those big events were Wednesday nights spent with my girlfriends, walking along the river sipping tea. Early mornings out exercising, moving in the cool morning air as the sun came up, and lying in my hammock with my dog on my lap, reading paperbacks. These things reflect my values, make me feel full and free and happy that I\u2019m doing what I want to with my time.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8a2975c elementor-widget elementor-widget-image\" data-id=\"8a2975c\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"image.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mygardyn.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/Self-refletion-tea-and-journaling-stock-photo-scaled.jpg\" title=\"\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" \/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b3f4820 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"b3f4820\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Each January, I like to take the time to sit with a journal in a quiet space where I can look out the window. It\u2019s an excellent time to reflect on your past year. The holidays have passed. Snow falls (depending on where you live), and the world turns into a quiet and still place. You can finally hear your thoughts.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are many ways you can go about reflecting. Journaling is popular for many people. Some like the stream of consciousness, others prefer prompts. Some prefer to draw out their year or pick a word that summarizes how they felt. Many people have bucket lists to see what they can check off and what lies ahead. Nature is another powerful source. There\u2019s a reason so many quotes of the ages speak of things discovered by time spent outdoors. <\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b4b8fbd elementor-widget elementor-widget-image\" data-id=\"b4b8fbd\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"image.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" width=\"662\" height=\"856\" src=\"https:\/\/mygardyn.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/Self-reflection-in-nature-stock-photos.png\" class=\"attachment-large size-large wp-image-88771\" alt=\"\" \/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b11f62a elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"b11f62a\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now that you can see patterns you want to shed and what you want to do more of, you can set your intention. Some, like <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/gretchenrubin.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gretchen Rubin<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, like to make <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/gretchenrubin.com\/2021\/12\/new-years-resolutions\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">lists of things they\u2019d like to do<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the coming year. Others use a chosen word to guide their decisions. Others may pick a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.oprah.com\/inspiration\/how-to-create-your-own-personal-mantra\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">mantra<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, sign up for a class, or join a community group. <\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ab5250a elementor-widget elementor-widget-image\" data-id=\"ab5250a\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"image.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mygardyn.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/eyeem-100095158-167804255-scaled.jpg\" title=\"\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" \/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-746114d elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"746114d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For many people, self-care is a primary focus. It\u2019s easy to get caught up with all the \u201cshoulds\u201d of today. I should have a cleaner house, dress better, host more gatherings, go to the gym more, etc. I\u2019ve tried this. What I\u2019ve found is that I lose touch with myself and my inner voice. I don\u2019t remember to take care of myself, to take in the moment, and to sink into all that is present and good.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><h4><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Self-care means caring for yourself in many different ways.\u00a0<\/span><\/h4><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Reflection, quiet walks in nature, exercising, resting, eating beautiful, nutritious food, and giving yourself time. The massages and manicures are in there too, but it\u2019s is a mind-body practice that includes being in touch with your inner dialogue. It\u2019s something we need to be happy and healthy in this world. Sometimes that means <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/gretchenrubin.com\/2018\/10\/make-time-self-care\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">writing it into your calendar<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> so you can make sure to meditate or take an evening walk. Or setting an alarm to read for a few minutes each day. When you do, you\u2019ll find yourself getting to know yourself again. Your time will become full of things that fill you up, make you feel happy, energetic, and light.
