New Plant Release for June: 2 flowers, 1 cucumber, and 1 herb

The possibilities to enhance meal planning with homegrown food are endless with Gardyn. Each month we’re delighted to bring new varieties to your Gardyning portfolio and even more fresh food to your plate!

Four new plants have arrived for your Gardyn including Borage, Purple Basil, Night-Scented Stock, and Cucumbers!

Cucumbers

We’re so excited for this new variety in our Gardyn portfolio! Cucumbers are low in calories and high in water and vitamins. Enjoy as a healthy snack for a boost of Vitamin C and K. Sliced cucumbers bring refreshing bursts of flavor to salads and side dishes.

Borage

Well known in homeopathy and sometimes cultivated to increase bee honey production, borage flowers grow in clusters and open to reveal beautiful and mysterious blue/indigo blossoms.

Enjoy the edible blossoms raw or boil the leaves. Stems can be added to soup or stew stock. All parts of borage taste like mild cucumber, but the flower heads are sweet with subtle notes of honeydew. 

Purple Basil

A fun, colorful substitution for normal Genovese Basil, purple basil‘s primary flavor is anise or sweet licorice. The dark hue of this vibrant herb is caused by high concentrations of compounds called anthocyanins, which have antioxidant properties. Use it as a topping for pizza or pasta, as the main ingredient to make a purple pesto sauce, or chop and add to a salad. If you’re growing strawberries, enjoy together for a complex and wonderful flavor combination. 

Night-Scented Stock

Night-Scented flowers have an intensely sweet aroma. They add delicate and elegant blooms to your Gardyn and make wonderful cut flowers for any floral arrangement. Extremely hardy and beautifully ornamental, reach their peak aroma at twilight.
